According to the local officials, in Mosul alone there are between 17,000 and 19,000 orphans - the result of warfare in the region. Currently, there are 4 government orphanages in Mosul serving roughly 100 of these children. A large number are in refugee camps and an undisclosed number are cared for by extended family. Restore Iraq supplements these noble efforts through food distributions directly to the orphans as well as to the families that have taken them in. We also offer medical assistance as well as resources to furnish the existing orphanages. Our long-term goal is to open an additional orphange to relieve the strain on the limited government facilities.

The pilot program of the Widow’s Storehouse will provide groceries every week for 50 widows and the orphans they care for. The two-month pilot will begin in March. More than a food bank, through relationship, we hope to assess the living conditions of these women and children and implement solutions to improve their quality of life. The long-term goal is to give the women sustainable income, secure housing, and resources to bless their community.
