What if you could equip
today’s children of war
to become tomorrow’s
leaders of peace…
We believe that each of Iraq’s orphans has the incredible capacity to impact the world. They can grow up to become the world’s best thinkers, entrepreneurs, writers, parents, leaders and fighters for peace. But these precious little ones have already endured immense hurt, trauma and atrocity in their short lives. If they are to go on and help the world heal, they first must have the opportunity to heal themselves. Enter art therapy…

Joyce was a young girl living in Africa when the LRA invaded her home. They forced her to watch as they killed her parents and younger brother and burned down her house. When her baby sister wouldn’t stop crying, the soldiers threw her against a tree to make her stop. They proceeded to take Joyce captive, tying her up and forcing her into a life of sexual slavery, servanthood and fighting as a child soldier. She lived in this horror for two years before she was able to escape. Joyce received help from Exile International and participated in one of their art therapy programs. Slowly and creatively she was able to express the trauma that haunted her both day and night. Tears streamed down her face as she drew. Through Art Therapy, Joyce embarked on a journey to heal. She grew up to be strong, radiant and full of hope; graduating high school with dreams of becoming a teacher to help other children. Joyce is from Africa, not Iraq, but the children we serve have similar stories of atrocity—witnessing the death of loved ones, losing their homes, being forced into slavery. But what they don’t yet have in common? A hopeful ending. We are eager to launch our Art Therapy Initiative and look forward to the day when the children we serve get to share in the same hope, strength, and goals that Joyce now experiences. Will you help make that future possible?
